How to Make Money Hanging out with Pets
If you love animals and want to make a little bit of extra money, you can join a dog walking or pet sitting service! Dog walkers and pet sitters are trusted by pet owners to take care of their beloved pet while the owner is at work or on vacation.
Some sites, like Care.com, Dog Vacay, and Rover allow you to create a profile and take on new clients on a case-by-case basis. You can decide to do dog boarding, house sitting, check-ins, doggy day care, or dog walking (or all of the above!). Clients are able to see reviews from previous clients, your rates and your availability. You can set up a bio to let potential customers know why you are the perfect person to take care of their fur babies. You can also set your own fees and get paid securely through the host site.
Other sites, like Fetch, Wag!, and Sitter4Paws actually hire you on to their company as an employee. The company books the dog walking and pet sitting appointments, bills the customers, and pays you a set fee. This takes much of the burden off of your shoulders, but can end up with slightly less money in your pocket overall.
Pet sitting and walking isn’t limited to just dogs and cats! Many sites offer care for hamsters, lizards, birds, and fish, which is usually limited to daily check-ins, feedings, and possibly cleaning the cage. Some websites also offer care for livestock including chickens and horses. Rural homeowners need vacations too!
